Open Day and AGM

Join us at our Trust Open Day and Annual General Meeting on Saturday 14 September 2024 from 9.15am – 2pm at Stoke Mandeville Hospital, Aylesbury.

Everyone is invited to join unique behind-the-scenes hospital tours (limited spaces, visit Ticket Tailor to book), meet our clinical teams and partner care organisations and join in activities. You could participate in a Makaton taster session or take a lung function test.

There will also be a careers fair and talks for secondary school students interested in careers in healthcare. Meet local universities and colleges and chat to our BrigHT futures @BHT team for advice and information on careers, work experience and volunteering.

Enjoy live entertainment. Food and drink will be available to purchase on the day and parking at the hospital will be free.

Mortuary: see how loved ones are cared for with the utmost respect & dignity if they sadly pass away. Learn of the services and choice we can offer families at one of the most upsetting times of their lives.
Upper Limb Studio, National Spinal Injuries Centre: Find out about a treatment approach called Activity Based Restorative Therapy which uses rehabilitation technology to assist in the recovery of upper limb function following spinal cord injury.
Ophthalmology: Come and see into the eye! Demonstration of imaging equipment, sim specs and more.

Simulation Suite: The Simulation & Skills service tour will include a demonstration of a simulation scenario, hands on experience with our laparoscopic surgical trainers as well as use of the Virtual Reality trainers to see how we train our clinical staff with the cutting edge of technology
Theatres
Horatio’s Garden: Join the Horatio’s Garden tour to learn about the background to the charity, the key elements of the garden design and hear how the garden is a sanctuary for patients recovering from spinal injuries. Visitors will see the garden, garden room, glasshouse & wildflower meadow.
Occupational therapy and physio session: Come and learn about dopamine inducing strategies and activities with the Children and Young People’s Integrated Therapies service
Makaton taster session: Over 100,000 children and adults use Makaton symbols and signs, either as their main method of communication or as a way to support speech. Come learn some Makaton signing with the Children and Young People’s Therapies team.

More tours and tickets will be published on Ticket Tailor as soon as they become available, with a small number of spaces kept back for walk-ins on the day.
