Patients with a suspected cardiac condition which requires immediate specialist attention will be assessed in the CSRU 24 hours a day and will be admitted to the inpatient cardiac service at Wycombe Hospital if appropriate. The CSRU provides rapid clinical assessment by a specialist team of doctors and nurses and delivers the most appropriate immediate care before admission to the cardiac ward, transfer to an alternative service or discharge home.
Please note: if you suspect you are suffering from a cardiac condition which requires immediate medical attention, ALWAYS call an ambulance on 999, as the CSRU is not generally accessible to walk in patients.
Some acute cardiac conditions will not require admission to the specialist unit at Wycombe Hospital and can be managed within a general hospital environment (Stoke Mandeville Hospital), or in the Urgent Treatment Centre (UTC) at Wycombe Hospital. The service works closely with the South Central Ambulance Service (SCAS) to determine where patients will receive the best and most appropriate care.
