Our rheumatology services are provided by a multidisciplinary team including medical staff, specialist rheumatology nurses, occupational therapists, physiotherapists and podiatrists, with access to hydrotherapy.

We offer patients help and advice via telephone helplines based at Stoke Mandeville and Amersham hospitals. We provide patient education programs as well as training sessions for colleagues working in primary care.

We have access to a range of diagnostic facilities, including musculoskeletal ultrasound, MRI, DEXA and NCS/EMG.

We provide specialist services including:

• Paediatric rheumatology
• Early arthritis clinic
• Emergency rheumatology clinic
• Ankylosing spondylitis clinic
• Combined clinics with other specialties to provide necessary expertise for more complex problems: including orthopaedic surgeons, hand surgeons and dermatologists
• Clinical psychology service for rheumatology patients
• Links with the chronic pain service in management of patients with chronic pain problems including involvement in a pain management programme and a multidisciplinary (rheumatologists, anaesthetists, psychologists and pain therapists) pain review clinic
• Epidural injections
• Joint and soft tissue injections
• Acupuncture clinics
• Intravenous therapies for rheumatoid arthritis, connective tissue diseases, Raynaud’s phenomenon, osteoporosis.

We provide education and training for trainee rheumatologists, GPs and junior doctors with close links to Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre in Oxford.
