Independent investigation into the activity of Jimmy Savile at Stoke Mandeville Hospital

The Speaking Out investigation was set up to give everybody affected by the activity of Jimmy Savile at Stoke Mandeville Hospital the opportunity to have their say, have their experience acknowledged and investigated, in confidence.

The investigation was undertaken alongside inquiries by other NHS organisations and the Department of Health. The Speaking Out Investigation was independently overseen by Kate Lampard, on behalf of the Department of Health, to ensure it was robust and any lessons for the NHS could be quickly shared and acted upon.

It was essential that these alleged crimes were investigated by the police first, as the proper criminal authorities with the expertise, power and experience to uncover truth and identify criminality. The Trust proactively worked with the police to fully support their investigation.

The Trust also committed to act on information the police provide to us when their investigatory and legal processes were concluded to ensure that any abuse or misconduct discovered is both considered by the Speaking Out Investigation and dealt with by the Trust.
