How to use your nasal spray

Advice on how to use nasal spray correctly

  1. Read the instructions on the label.
  2. Blow your nose unless the doctor has told you not to.
  3. Wash and dry your hands.
  4. Shake the bottle and remove the cap
  5. If using for the first time, or if more than a week has elapsed since you last used the spray, depress the bottle several times until a fine mist comes out of the nozzle.
  6. Breathing through your mouth, close one nostril with your finger and insert the nozzle into the other nostril. Tilt your head forward slightly and keep the bottle upright.
  7. Start to breathe in through your nose and WHILE BREATHING IN press down firmly ONCE to release a spray.
  8. Remove the nozzle and breathe out through your mouth. You may be able to taste the medicine. This is normal.
  9. Repeat for the other nostril if required.
  10. Wipe the nozzle with a clean tissue or handkerchief and replace the cap. Always keep the cap on the bottle and store in a cool place, or as directed on the label.
  11. Do not use the spray for longer than recommended by your doctor.
  12. It is important to clean the nozzle regularly, in hot soapy water. Rinse thoroughly in warm clean water and dry completely at room temperature. Do not try to unblock the nozzle using a pin or other sharp object.

Always keep the container tightly closed and store in a cool place, or as directed on the label.
