Volunteers are an integral and valued part of the team at Bucks Healthcare NHS Trust, who help enhance the patient experience and compliment the work of paid members of staff. Volunteers help ensure that we are able to not only deliver top quality services to our patients, but assist in fulfilling our vision of ‘Safe and Compassionate Care Every Time’.
Our volunteers work across all the different sites and in many different roles including befriending, conversation partners, meet and greeting, ward support and much more. For most of our roles you don’t necessarily need prior experience or qualifications, as we offer you training and support. All that we ask volunteers is that they come with a passion for helping people, good interpersonal skills and an ability to give us a regular commitment.
All of our active volunteering roles are advertised under the ‘Current opportunities’ tab on this website. Please read the attached Role Description in deciding whether a role is suitable for you.
Our volunteering roles are non-clinical and help to enhance the patient experience by complimenting the work of paid members of staff. Each role has been developed in consultation with department/ ward staff in ensuring that you are meeting the patients' needs whilst offering you a quality experience. Please note that this is not suitable for anyone wanting work experience or shadowing. For student placements a separate student placement scheme has been developed, with more information provided in the 'Student placement scheme' tab.
“Our volunteers are invaluable to us on my wards. They do so much to help and support our patients. Our volunteers provide much needed company to patients and do activities such as reading or completing crosswords, they provide a listening ear to patients and their relatives, and they support staff by helping with administration or stocking up supplies, for example. Our volunteers are a breath of fresh air – and we are very grateful for their commitment and the kindness they show to patients that really need a smiling face and a positive demeanour. They are a wonderful addition to the team.” - Jenny Carro, matron for the emergency surgical floor.
