Neil Macdonald to take on new CEO role at University Hospitals Plymouth NHS Trust
Buckinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust’s Chief Executive Neil Macdonald is leaving the Trust to take up a new role as Chief Executive of University Hospitals Plymouth NHS Trust.
Neil has been the Chief Executive of Buckinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust (BHT) since March 2018. Prior to this, he was part of the Trust Board for three years as Chief Operating Officer.
During his tenure, Neil has made significant contributions to the Trust, including chairing the Buckinghamshire Executive Partnership and serving as vice-chair of the Health & Wellbeing Board in Buckinghamshire. He is also an Honorary Professor of Professional Practice for the School of Business at the University of Buckingham and a Trustee of Scannappeal.
Neil began his NHS career in Yorkshire as a National General Management Trainee in 2003, before joining the Trust in 2005. After roles at the Healthcare Commission and in general management at Imperial and Guys and St. Thomas’ Trusts, he returned to Buckinghamshire in July 2013 as Deputy Chief Operating Officer for the Surgery and Critical Care Division.
Neil said: “BHT has been my home for 12 years; 7 as Chief Executive. It has been my absolute honour to work alongside the most wonderful set of colleagues and partners. I am especially proud of the job everyone did to keep people safe and care for the most vulnerable in our communities during the Covid-19 pandemic, where I was privileged to witness the very best of public service. I will miss everyone in BHT deeply and look forward to hearing of its continued success and achievements.”
Trust Chair David Highton added: “Neil’s departure will be deeply felt across the Trust. He has been an exceptional leader throughout his entire tenure as Chief Executive. His presence and leadership will be missed by colleagues here and across the wider Buckinghamshire health system. He leaves the Trust and our developing health and care partnership in a strong and stable position.
As he steps into the role of Chief Executive at University Hospitals Plymouth NHS Trust – a larger organisation with its own set of challenges – we are confident that his energy, strategic focus, and talent for building high-performing teams will serve him well. We extend our warmest wishes for continued success in this next chapter of his career.”
