Trust awarded £2 million in recognition of reductions in patient waits in the Emergency Department
Buckinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust has been awarded an additional £2 million in capital funding after being named one of the top 20 most improved organisations in the country for reducing 12-hour waits in Emergency Departments (ED) over the past year.
This national recognition highlights the Trust’s commitment to delivering timely, high-quality care and its success in transforming urgent and emergency services. The achievement reflects the hard work and dedication of frontline staff, clinical teams, and system partners who have worked collaboratively to improve patient flow and outcomes. The Trust showed the biggest improvement of any organisation in the NHS last year.
Raghuv Bhasin, Chief Operating Officer for the Trust said: “This funding is a testament to the incredible progress we’ve made to be one of the most improved organisations in the country. Our teams have worked relentlessly to work together to ensure our patients get the right care in the right place at the right time and I am proud of their work to bring down waits for our residents.”
While Emergency Departments remain a vital part of urgent care, the Trust is also working to ensure that patients can access the most appropriate services for their needs. This includes expanding access to urgent treatment centres, same-day emergency care, and the urgent community response team in the community.
Andrew McLaren, Chief Medical Officer for the Trust said: “We know that the Emergency Department is not always the best option for every patient. By improving access to alternative services, we’re helping people get the care they need more quickly and effectively.”
The £2 million capital investment will be used to further enhance urgent and emergency care facilities, invest in digital infrastructure, and support innovations that continue to reduce waiting times and improve patient experience.
