Trust Specialist Nurse wins national Parkinson’s Excellence Network Award

Liz Scott, recently retired, Parkinson’s Nurse Specialist has been awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award at the recent Parkinson’s Excellence Network Awards 2023.

Liz has dedicated most of her nursing career to Parkinson’s beginning in 1992 as part of a community project in Hythe, Hampshire and only recently retiring in August 2023 after 28 years of service, in the role of Parkinson’s Disease Nurse Specialist caring for people with Parkinson’s in the Amersham and High Wycombe areas.

Laurel and Peter Miller, local Parkinson’s UK Trustees said: “Liz will be sorely missed by the thousands of people she has supported over the years and the contribution she has made to the care of people living with Parkinson’s over the years is immeasurable.”

Karen Bonner, Chief Nurse for the Trust said: “It is wonderful to see Liz being recognised nationally for her commitment and dedication to supporting people living with Parkinson’s. Without doubt she’s made significant differences to people’s lives during her time in the NHS in Buckinghamshire and beyond.”

Dr Rowan Wathes, Associate Director of Policy and Health Strategy at Parkinson’s UK, said: “Liz’s contribution and dedication to caring for people with Parkinson’s over 28 years is immeasurable and her professionalism nothing short of inspirational. It was a pleasure and privilege to in some way to honour this work with a Parkinson’s Excellence Network Lifetime Achievement award.”

Liz was also recognised at our Annual BHT Awards this year and was awarded the People’s Award for Personal and Compassionate Care. The Trust received over 25 nominations from patients and carers in the local Parkinson’s community.
