Shirley Parsons’ volunteers overhaul patient garden at Brookside Clinic

Date: 03/11/2023 | Category: News 2023

A team of 35 volunteers from Shirley Parsons spruced up the patient recovery garden at the Brookside Clinic in Aylesbury.

The Brookside Clinic houses Buckinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust’s Community Head Injury Service (CHIS), a rehabilitation service for patients who have had strokes and brain injuries to help them return to life in the community. The gardens help with rehabilitation, with staff working alongside clients to help them develop skills and confidence following their injuries.

Originally donated from an RHS Show in 2020, the garden was very popular but had become overgrown. The Shirley Parsons volunteers spent three hours working in the garden – digging out beds, pulling out ivy, thinning out borders, planting bulbs, painting benches and generally tidying up the facility.

Brookside Clinic manager Martin Hillier said:

“I want to give a massive thanks to the Shirley Parsons team.  They completely overhauled the gardens in just three hours which was an amazing achievement.  I was particularly taken by how pleasant and approachable everyone was. They created a really good impression. I am looking forward to spring and seeing the daffodils bloom from the bulbs that Shirley kindly purchased and planted.”

CEO of Shirley Parsons Paul Roebuck said:

“The Brookside Clinic plays such an important role in the community local to our Aylesbury office so it is a perfect facility for us to support. I am very proud of the UK team who worked hard and were able to make such a difference to the garden in just a few hours.  We have made a public commitment to have a positive impact on every community where we are present – and this latest project in Aylesbury is one of many we are involved with around the world.”

Established in Aylesbury in 2010, Shirley Parsons now has offices in the USA, Canada, Germany, Netherlands, Denmark, Taiwan, Australia, and New Zealand providing global talent and project services within Health & Safety, Quality, and Sustainability.
