Chalfonts and Gerrards Cross Hospital celebrates 150th anniversary
We are celebrating the 150th anniversary of Chalfonts and Gerrards Cross Hospital, one of our five community hospitals.
Leaders and colleagues from the Trust joined the League of Friends committee in the memorial garden to commemorate the special day. They reviewed photos taken over the hospital’s long history which started on 19 June 1871 when the Hibbert family of Chalfont Park donated the original cottage hospital building housing six beds and one cot.

19 June is a double celebration for Sara Sabine, Chair of the Chalfonts and Gerrards Cross League of Friends, who also celebrates her golden wedding anniversary on the same day: “The League of Friends is proud of our long association with the hospital and we know how dear it is to the local community’s heart. We look forward to continuing to provide it with funds and practical support.”
Tina Charlton, Deputy Chief Nurse for Buckinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust, said: “Chalfonts has supported the local community over its lifetime in many different ways – from the original six bed-cottage hospital to hosting a community COVID-19 vaccination centre today – and the NHS is so grateful that this support is two-way. The 150th anniversary is a wonderful opportunity to say thank you to the League of Friends for all their on-going efforts.”
The celebration was low-key due to COVID restrictions, but the committee plans to hold a small party later in the year.
