Central digital wound hub (for remote post-operative wound monitoring)

Read our guide below how we will monitor your surgical wound digitally once you’re home. Find out what you can expect from the central digital wound hub service (CDWH).

You can also download a PDF version of this patient information by following the link on the right.

Read this guide alongside any advice given during your hospital stay or discharge.

What is the central digital wound hub?

It supports patients following specific types of surgery across Buckinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust. It’s a remote wound monitoring service that
enables your surgical team to monitor your wound healin. They can then provide advice based on the information and images you share.

This service helps:

  • reduce the risk of wound infection
  • support earlier detection of complications
  • improve healing outcomes through timely review and advice.

It’s not an emergency service.

What can I expect?

You’ll get weekly secure messages from us (text or email) asking you to:

  • submit photos of your wound
  • give short updates on how your wound’s healing.

These requests will come from Buckinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust. They’re managed through a secure system provided by Isla Health.

You’ll need to give:

  • your year of birth
  • consent to participate (you can withdraw at any time by emailing bht.ssis@nhs.net or calling 01296 316103).

What happens next?

A trained team of healthcare professionals will review your photos and information. You’ll usually get a response within 24 hours (often much sooner).

The CDWH team may contact you for more information or follow-up questions.

We monitor most patients weekly for 28 days. Or, until their wound heals and they’re discharged from the service.

If we’re concerned, we may recommend that you have a review in maternity triage. We’ll let you know at the time.

Is it free to send photos?

Yes. There’s no charge to send wound photos or updates through the system.

Is my information secure?

Yes. Isla Health is a secure, NHS-approved platform. It uses encryption, access controls, and audit logs, and is GDPR compliant.

Do I need to send updates if my wound’s healing well?

Yes. Please send regular updates even if everything looks fine. This helps your team monitor progress and catch issues early.

What should I do if I’m concerned about my wound?

Call the 24-hour triage line on 01296 316103 if you:

  • feel feverish
  • have any redness or swelling around your wound site at any time before 28 days post-natal
  • feel generally concerned about your wound.
