Trauma Assessment Unit

The Trauma Assessment Unit is a 4-chaired, two cubicle unit that reviews patients accepted by the trauma team for review and various treatments. Patients will be asked to come here by a member of the Trauma team or referred to the speciality team via the emergency department or community services.

We offer follow up care for broken bones and traumatic injury after the initial treatment is given in emergency departments and urgent care centres.

Please note: TAU is an adult only treatment unit.

Referrals

This service is by referral only.  If the clinician who initially reviews your injury feels you need to be seen by the trauma team in the Trauma Assessment Unit a referral will be made for you; and you will receive a telephone call regarding when you will need to come in.

Treatment and care

We treat a variety of injuries and complaints such as broken bones and wound care follow up. We will often call you back to review X-Rays, re-cast limbs and provide wound care treatments.

What happens in a TAU appointment?

You’ll be booked in by our admin team. You’ll then be seen by a nurse who’ll review your complaint. A member of our Trauma team will then discuss treatment and any follow up appointments required.
