Charity provides Trust with new equipment to support cancer patients
Patients undergoing chemotherapy treatment at Buckinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust will soon be able to benefit from new furniture and equipment thanks to a generous charitable donation.
The Cancer Care and Haematology Fund has committed £41,000 for the purchase of 32 new reclining chairs for both the Sunrise cancer unit at Wycombe Hospital and the Cancer Care and Haematology Unit at Stoke Mandeville Hospital. The charity is also providing a further £19,000 for the purchase of an additional scalp cooling system for use in the Cancer Care and Haematology Unit at Stoke Mandeville Hospital.
The charity was set up in 1990 to raise funds for a specialist unit at Stoke Mandeville Hospital and continues to provide financial support for cancer treatment facilities in the Trust.
Michelle Pearsall, Macmillan Matron for Oncology and Haematology for Buckinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust, said: “The reclining chairs will replace all of the existing chairs in the units at both hospitals. These chairs are used every day in our busy treatment areas and it’s very important our patients have a comfortable place to sit while receiving treatment.”
Michelle added: “Scalp cooling can reduce hair loss during chemotherapy and while it’s not suitable for everyone it’s great to have this additional system so we’re able to offer the service to more of our patients. We’re extremely grateful to all those who’ve given so generously allowing us to provide a greater level of comfort and support for patients in our cancer units.”
