Trust launches carer passport during Carers’ Week

Date: 10/06/2024 | Category: News 2024

During National Carers Week 2024 (10-16 June), the Trust is launching our Carer Passport for carers of inpatients.

A carer is anyone who looks after a family member, partner or friend who needs help because of their illness, frailty, or disability, and who cannot cope without their support. We want to support carers to be involved in making decisions, care planning and giving, with the agreement of the patient.

The Carer Passport will allow carers to:

  • Visit out of normal visiting hours.
  • Provide assistance with personal care, meals and drinks.
  • Be actively involved in the meetings about their loved one.
  • Be involved in discussion and planning for the discharge of their loved one.
  • Benefit from reduced car parking fees.

Please discuss the carer passport with the nurse in charge on the ward your friend or family member is on and they will help you fill out the passport.

Chief Nurse at the Trust, Karen Bonner said: “We very much appreciate the role unpaid carers play in the recovery of our patients. We understand many people may not consider themselves a ‘carer’, as they are a loved one or trusted friend, but the support they provide to patients who are in our care and the insight they bring to care plans for our patients is invaluable. This is why we want to support carers and involve them more fully while someone they love is in hospital.”
