Day assessment unit (DAU)
What is the DAU
The DAU provides an assessment service for women over 20 weeks of pregnancy who require additional monitoring or diagnosis during their pregnancy.
Location and opening hours
Our DAU is located within the Claydon Wing annexe at Stoke Mandeville Hospital.
We are open 7 days a week: Monday – Friday 8am – 6pm and Saturday – Sunday 9am – 5pm.
You can contact the unit on 01296 316106.
Please check in at reception and the DAU office. Please bring your maternity records with you and you are welcome to bring your birth partner or a friend / family member to support you.
Our DAU is staffed by experienced midwives who will work closely with you to provide the best care possible. We provide care to women who have a planned appointment as well as urgent referrals. We always aim to see women in a timely manner according to the needs of the presenting condition. This means you may not always be seen at an allocated time or in the order in which you arrive.
Our midwives may liaise with the doctors who are on-call if they feel they need to further discuss your care and management so that you have an individualised clear plan of care that will be also be discussed and agreed with you. We aim to provide you and your family with consistent high quality care and information enabling you to make informed choices as you progress through your pregnancy.
We would encourage you to contact your community midwife or GP with any minor pregnancy related concerns. You may be referred to the DAU by your community midwife, GP, antenatal clinic or another department in the hospital.
