Professional midwife advocates

What are Professional Midwifery Advocate’s (PMA’s)?

We are a team of experienced midwives who support, develop and advocate for our midwives to create positive actions that will improve the care we provide for women and their families.

Professional midwifery advocacy provides our midwives with support to reflect on practice and learn from clinical events in practice.

How can we help you?

  • We support safe practice by directing midwives to provide the best care possible for women and their families.
  • We can provide advice and guidance and we will listen to any concerns you may have about your care at any stage of your pregnancy, birth or during the postnatal period.
  • We support midwives to work in partnership with women to develop care plans that meet individual needs.

At Buckinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust we are fortunate to also have a Consultant Midwife who supports women in making informed choices about their labour and birth, and we offer a Birth Reflections service for women who wish to discuss their pregnancy, labour and/or birth experience after they have given birth to their baby.

How to contact a PMA?

We can meet with you and your midwife if required to help you achieve the birth you want by discussing your choices and providing you with evidence-based information. The contact details for the PMA’s are: bht.contactpma@nhs.net
