Children and young people's occupational therapy service


We provide a range of services to support children and young people to have the best possible health and education outcomes, in line with the Department of Health’s vision and model for school nursing set out in 2012 in Getting It Right For Young People

Our service specification is based on the Healthy Child Programme 5-19.  This includes:

  • Reception year:
    • Online school entry health assessment
    • National child measurement programme
    • Hearing (in some areas) and vision screening 
    • Flu vaccination programme
  • Year 1:
    • Flu vaccination programme
  • Year 2:
    • Flu vaccination programme
  • Year 4:
    • Flu vaccination programme
  • Year 6:
    • National child measurement programme 
    • Online health assessment
  • Year 8:
    • HPV vaccination programme
  • Year 9:
    • Meningitis ACWY  and Diphtheria, Tetanus and Polio programme
    • Online health assessment

We can provide advice, support and signposting on: 

  • Behaviour management
  • Healthy eating and lifestyle
  • Emotional health and wellbeing
  • Puberty and growing up
  • Sexual health, including chlamydia screening
  • Stopping smoking
  • Drug and alcohol misuse.

We can also offer you some support and guidance in relation to infectious diseases in schools, although we would encourage schools to be familiar with the Department of Health document Health Protection in Schools, 2017.
