Children and young people's occupational therapy service


We provide a range of services to support children and young people to have the best possible health and education outcomes, in line with the Department of Health’s vision and model for school nursing set out in 2012 in Getting It Right For Young People

Our service specification is based on the Healthy Child Programme 5-19.  For the academic year 2020/2021 this includes:

School Readiness Service

  • The School Readiness checklist for parents / carers
  • Advice and support for parents/carers whose children are starting school in September 2020 and onwards
  • Self-referral pathway for parents / carers to our dedicated School Readiness Team
  • Referral pathway for professionals to the School Readiness Team
  • Reception year children will also be offered to partake universal screening programmes. NB Parents/carers will be required to opt out of these.

    • Vision screening

For all ages groups we can provide advice, support and signposting on:

  • Behaviour management
  • Healthy eating and lifestyle
  • Emotional health and well being
  • Delayed toileting 
  • Puberty and growing up
  • Sexual health, including chlamydia screening

We also offer: 

We can also offer you some support and guidance in relation to infectious diseases in schools, although we would encourage schools to be familiar with the Department of Health document Health Protection in Schools, 2017.
