Occupational therapy
We provide occupational therapy at all stages of patient treatment and care with us. This includes:
Straight after injury (acute phase)
- management of upper limbs, including splinting
- preventing loss of feeling
- referral to community services
- initiation of functional rehabilitation.
Rehabilitation
- helping to mobilise
- assessing seating and posture
- helping to build independence in daily living
- assessing equipment and adaptive devices to help patients live more independently
- splinting to promote upper limb function and prevent deformities
- providing therapeutic techniques to improve grasp/hand function
- preparing patients and their familes for when they leave hospital
- liaising with community services
- outpatient review
- providing information about:
* community services available
* driving
* employment
* assistive technology
- visiting the home/work/school to advise on adaptations needed.
Re-admission for specialist surgery
- upper limb reconstruction providing:
* pre-surgical assessment
* post-surgical rehabilitation.
Our buildings have been designed to offer internal and external areas with a comprehensive range of surfaces, gradients and other recreational activities to help with patient rehabilitation.
