All patients will have contact with a member of the clinical psychology team at some point during their rehabilitation. In particular, there is a named clinical psychologist in each of the centre’s five clinical teams.
We provide three talks on the patient education programme:
We also talk about coping at relatives’ day - when family and friends are invited to spend a day at the centre, receiving information about spinal cord injury and meeting previous (now discharged) patient volunteers.
In addition, we contribute to a range of teaching and training programmes for other health professionals and carers within and outside of the centre. This is to build clinical awareness of psychological adjustment and develop specific skills and management of the issues and concerns associated with distress.
All our clinical psychologists are registered with the Health and Care Professionals Council, and chartered members of the Division of Clinical Psychology of the British Psychological Society.
