Ready for school

School readiness

Your child will be invited for Pre-School Booster. The 4-in-1 Pre-School booster vaccine is offered to three year old children to boost their protection against four different diseases:

  • Diphtheria
  • Tetanus
  • Whooping Cough
  • Polio

If you need advice on any aspects of your child’s development or behaviour then please contact your Health Visiting Team.

Behaviour Support

A health visitor is able to provide extra support to you and your family if you have any concerns regarding your child’s development or behaviour.

The community nursery nurses are qualified in supporting the families around challenging behaviour, toilet training; sleep problems, fussy eating etc.

Developmental Concerns

A health visitor can assess your child’s development including speech and communication if you have any concerns.  Appropriate referrals can then be made if any concerns are highlighted.

Children or families with extra needs

If the health visitor has been working with your family when your child starts school, she will liaise with the school nursing team (in discussion with you) to ensure that you and your child continue to get the appropriate help and support.

Support from the School Nursing Team

The Getting Ready for School section from the School Nursing Team, provides a checklist, helpful tips, advice, resources and e-referral to the School Readiness Team. The Getting Ready for School section includes 4 different pages on topics to support your child when starting school.
