An exciting new exhibition has been installed at the National Spinal Injuries Centre (NSIC) at Stoke Mandeville Hospital.
Michael Craig-Martin’s “Alphabet” is an installation of 26 bright and bold prints pairing everyday objects such as a book, a glass of water or an umbrella with letters of the alphabet, sometimes in a surprising and thought-provoking way. Michael Craig-Martin is one of the most successful artists of his generation and was a key figure in the first generation of British conceptual artists.
National Spinal Injuries Centre arts co-ordinator Vivienne Gordon says, “We are extremely lucky to have this installation from such an influential artist. There is a lot of evidence linking the therapeutic benefits of art in hospitals, especially for patients like ours who can be with us for months at a time. I’m sure our patients, and their visitors, will enjoy looking at these pictures and working out the links between the letters and objects depicted.”
The exhibition has been provided to Buckinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust by Paintings in Hospitals, a charity who helps health and social care providers to display works of art for the benefit of patients, visitors and staff and runs until mid-April 2016.
