Immunology is the study of all aspects of the immune system. It deals with things like the physiological functioning of the immune system in states of both health and disease, malfunctions of the immune system in immunological disorders, and the physical, chemical and physiological characteristics of the immune system.

We provide a high quality immunochemistry service used to diagnose and monitor patients with primary and secondary immunodeficiencies, lymphoproliferative disorders, monoclonal gammopathies and chronic infections.
The laboratory offers a full range of diagnostic autoantibody testing to support the clinical diagnosis of rheumatoid disease, systemic lupus erythematosus, vasculitis, chronic renal and lung disease, neurological syndromes and bowel disorders. The laboratory provides a clinically lead service, reactive to the needs of the requesters and patients.
Allergy is a growth area within the Trust, and the laboratory is committed to providing a responsive service for allergy testing. All requests for lymphocyte markers and functional cellular assays are managed by the laboratory along with sample collection for cryoglobulin detection.
The laboratory is open between 9am and 5:30pm, Monday to Friday, and does not operate an emergency out-of-hours service at the present time. The laboratory has full clinical pathology accreditation (CPA).
