On Monday this week, London Wasps players Bob Baker, Sam Jones and Chris Elder visited Stoke Mandeville Hospital in Aylesbury to meet some of the children and young people, some of whom are facing the prospect of Christmas at the hospital.
Bob, Chris and Sam took time to talk to the children and their families before visiting the world renowned National Spinal Injuries Centre, where several young people were recovering from spinal injuries and traumas. This part of the visit was especially poignant for Bob, Chris and Sam, who are all too aware of the importance of such care in the wake of serious rugby injuries. The players were invited into the spinal gym, where patients go for specialist rehab and physio once they are out of immediate danger from their injury.
After the visits to Stoke Mandeville Hospital, Community Rugby Coach Ben Smiley told wasps.co.uk, "Any visit such as this is a moving experience - at Christmas it is even more so, with many families not being able to spend family time together at their own homes. It was clear to see that Bob, Chris and Sam were all moved by the experience, and I know that they were all delighted to be able to do a small bit to bring some festive cheer to the patients, and their families."
How about a more detailed guide about each hospital
