The family of Jason Fisher, a young man who died in the intensive therapy unit (ITU) at Stoke Mandeville Hospital, has donated a cheque for £12,000, helping to buy new life-saving equipment.
The money was raised from the proceeds of a ball held in Ludgershall in Jason’s memory, last year’s Jay Fest music festival and a number of ongoing individual donations from friends and family.
Jason’s family have been fundraising for the unit for the last two years after being impressed with the care he received and the staff who looked after not only Jason but his parents and siblings.

Jane Skinner, matron for ITU at the hospital, said the £12,000 donation will buy a number of new, state-of-the-art infusion pumps which administer medication to patients and have additional features that make the monitoring easier for staff.
“We’re overwhelmed by the continued support from the Fisher family and are so grateful for their donations”, said Jane. “We’ve been able to buy a lot of new equipment that will benefit many patients for years to come”.
The family has been involved in a number of events in Ludgershall, such as the popular Jay Fest music festival which was attended this year by more than 1,500 people. Last year, Jason’s family and friends donated £2,500 to ITU which was used to purchase an electrocardiogram (ECG) machine. A further £8,000 was also donated which went towards a new hoist that is now being used to move patients and can weigh them at the same time, as well as a number of TVs and DVD players for patients in recovery.
Jason Fisher, from Ludgershall, near Thame, died in the hospital’s intensive therapy unit (ITU) in July 2008, after complications arose following surgery abroad.
The Trust, and in particular the ITU department, would like to thank the Fisher family for their ongoing support.
ENDS.
