Midwife scoops top accolade
Debbie Oram, a Trust employed midwife, has been crowned Midwife of the Year by the Royal College of Midwifery, at its recently held annual Midwifery Awards ceremony.
The achievement is a double boost for Debbie and the Trust as it comes shortly after she was named National Johnson’s Baby Mum’s South and East regional winner, having been nominated by Buckinghamshire based mum, Olwen Mayes, after the birth of her baby.
The Johnson’s Baby Mum’s Midwife of the Year Award is the only award which allows mums to nominate midwives who they feel have gone beyond the call of duty.
A delighted Debbie said: “I have been a midwife for 22 years and caring for women during childbirth is a privilege at such a special and precious time. I cared for Olwen and John during the births of both their sons, the first at home in a pool and the second in hospital due to a complication of pregnancy. I gave constant support during her stay in hospital and continued after she went home. I feel very honoured and humble to be nominated for showing support, care and empathy for women and their families”
Audrey Warren, Trust Head of Midwifery said: “We are delighted that Debbie has won this award for herself and for the entire maternity unit and for women we care for. We are dedicated to delivering a high quality of care to the women who access our maternity services.
“At Buckinghamshire Maternity Unit, the underpinning philosophy is to strive to empower the midwives to deliver a service which meets the needs of the local population and Debbie as a co-ordinator on the labour ward plays an important part in this agenda.”
