Audiology information day - it's more than just hearing aids!

The audiology department at Buckinghamshire Hospitals NHS Trust, is holding an information day for patients and public covering all aspects of hearing and support, at the Chiltern Education Centre foyer, Wycombe Hospital, on Monday 16 January between 10.00am to 2.00pm.

Activities include visual displays and practical demonstrations of basic fault finding and hearing aid care as well as presentations on the latest digital hearing aid technology available from the NHS.  In addition, members of the audiology team will be present to answer any questions or provide support and help on any aspect of audiology.

Andrew Perriam, head of audiology at Buckinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust said: “The aim of the day is to provide everyone with the latest information about any aspect of audiology and details about the full range of services that are available. It is also to give people the opportunity to come along and meet the team for a chat, see our visual displays and demonstrations or just pick up some leaflets.”

While fitting hearing aids, counselling and supporting those with hearing loss is the main focus of audiology departments, it is not the whole picture; as the department also provides hearing assessment of babies and children, clinics for those with complex audiological needs, vestibular (balance) assessment and rehabilitation, and tinnitus counselling.                                                        

The audiology department has consistently offered high quality hearing and balance services and has been nationally recognised as delivering high quality services by the Department of Health. 

The team of highly qualified, experienced and dedicated staff have also won local awards for service excellence and innovation, including being voted finalists of the Trust’s 2011 staff awards for the category of ‘Healthcare Team of the Year’ (photos available on request).
